Commission Affaires internationales

The International Commission is dedicated to the elevation of Bibliosuisse's presence and participation on the global stage by fostering engagement, collaboration, and exchange among members of the association. Through strategic initiatives, partnerships, and guidance, the commission endeavours to enrich the professional development of Bibliosuisse members, promote Swiss librarianship culture and practices worldwide, and facilitate access to international opportunities and experiences. By fulfilling its mandate, the International Commission seeks to position the association and its members in the international library community driving innovation, knowledge sharing, and collective growth on a global scale.

Mission

Our goal is to support the development of Bibliosuisse and its members by:

  • Developing and implementing projects and initiatives that integrate international perspectives into the activities of Bibliosuisse.
  • Facilitating access to international experiences, projects, and opportunities for Bibliosuisse members.
  • Serving as ambassadors of Swiss librarianship culture and practices on the international scene.
  • Sharing our knowledge and experiences with the Bibliosuisse community to enhance its understanding of global trends and best practices.
  • Fostering and promoting professional exchange through collaboration with various associations worldwide, with a primary focus on Europe and extending to global engagement through partnerships such as IFLA.
  • Providing support (upon request) to the Board, on matters pertaining to international affairs.

Through these concerted efforts, the International Commission aims to enhance the global impact of Bibliosuisse and the Swiss library sector, facilitate international collaboration, and empower its members to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

Structure of the commission

The International Commission is structured to reflect the diversity of Bibliosuisse's membership. The board of Bibliosuisse is responsible for appointing the members of the International Commission and its presidium, who are recruited by the Commission itself. The Presidium works closely with the secretariat and the Bibliosuisse board to ensure smooth operations. The Presidium, in consultation with the members, coordinates the Commission’s activities and organizes regular meetings, which are documented in minutes. Additionally, the Commission is tasked with preparing an annual report for the Bibliosuisse office and board. The list of the Commission members is maintained to ensure transparency and inclusiveness in its operations.

The Commission operates in English, though its members are also proficient in the official national languages.
